lightlab artist cpd programme
I was successful in my application to this year’s Lightlab programme run by Lightpool (Blackpool Illuminations), Durham Lumiere and Light Night Wigan (all part of the Light Up the North network).
Since October I’ve been taking part in a variety of practical advice sessions, artist talks and touring various light art festivals to develop my creative practice and consider if (and how) I can transfer my paper-based light art works (predominantly cyanotypes) to a light art festival environment. I’ve been specifically exploring whether this can be done in alignment with my green freelancing commitments, and also in an inclusive and accessible way for audiences.
I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a group of brilliant likeminded artists and technology professionals all wanting to learn how to do this work. I’ve learnt so much from them.
At the start of December, six of the group were awarded a small amount of funding for R&D of projects we’d pitched to the panel during the Lightlab programme. I’m pleased to say that mine was one of the six projects selected, and I’m looking forward to building on the knowledge I’ve gained over the last three months. Watch this space!
