field notes: in person session at STOCKPORT GRIT WITH CERAMICIST BEV MEYER
A trip to my sister studio over at Stockport Kingston GRIT and our LGBTQ+ Gynae Stories group, along with Wellcome Collection colleagues Julia and Eris.
We’ve been looking at votives in the Wellcome Collection and the group fancied making their own as part of their creative explorations with me this year. It’s not easy bringing someone new into an established group where trust between members has already been built over the last 18 months, but I knew that ceramicist Bev Meyer would be the right person. Her use of storytelling through clay aligns so well with the project, and she’s also a genuinely nice human who I could trust to work inclusively and with care.
We spent a glorious day with Bev, sharing lived experience stories and of course making our own votives. We’ll be back next month to finish these pieces off, so watch this space. Thank you Bev for working with me on this, and for putting up with all my questions!
The next few months will be focused on more collections-inspired conversations and creative explorations: all informed by group and individual interests. They’ll then decide which pieces to take forward for sharing publicly later in the year.
